1Why Albania
Albania is a small Balkan country (about 28,748 km², ~3.1 million people) with an Adriatic and Ionian coastline, UNESCO towns and spectacular mountain scenery. The capital is Tirana, the official language is Albanian, and the currency is the Albanian lek (ALL).
Albania is mostly Muslim (~57%) but is known for exceptional religious tolerance — Christians, Muslims and Bektashi live peacefully side by side. Alcohol is available, there is no dress restriction, and there is no conservative atmosphere for tourists.
What makes it special for Israelis:
A direct flight from Tel Aviv — about 3 hours.
Level 1 travel advisory — fully green.
3 UNESCO sites (Berat, Gjirokastër, Butrint).
The Albanian Riviera — beaches with turquoise waters, less crowded than Greece.
⚠️ Visa: according to visa sources, Israelis are exempt from a visa for short stays. Verify with the Albanian embassy / Ministry of Foreign Affairs before travelling — there is no open official Albanian document explicitly confirming this.
Required passport validity: per the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs — a passport valid for at least 3 months after the date of departure from Albania, issued within the last 10 years.
4When to fly
Spring (April–June) ✅ — Tirana, Berat, Gjirokastër and nature: comfortable and less crowded.
Peak (July–August) — the Riviera and beaches: hotter and more crowded.
Shoulder (September–October) ✅ — the Riviera + cities: especially recommended.
Low (November–March) — cities and indoor trips: colder/rainier.
Recommendation for Israelis: September–October — beaches are still comfortable, less crowded, lower prices.
